Dr Asrul Akmal Shafie is currently the International Fellow for International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, and Associate Professor in Social and Administrative Pharmacy at Universiti Sains Malaysia. He graduated with a pharmacy degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2001 and was awarded USM fellowship to pursue PhD degree in pharmacoeconomic which he successfully completed in Cardiff University, UK in 2007. He has published more than one hundred peer reviewed journal articles and regularly reviewed manuscripts for international and local publications including British Medical Journal, Bulletin WHO and Value in Health. He is an appointed member of Malaysia National Medicine Policy Steering Committee, Ministry of Health’s Quality Use of Medicine Committee, Malaysia Health Promotion Board and Malaysia Pharmacy Advisory Board.


His research interests are in the area of pharmacy practice and pharmacoeconomics, particulary in the application of econometric, economic evaluation, and Markov modelling methods to the assessment of health and health care.
